Kim's most recent activity is researching and writing a book about strategic management. The research used to prepare this book has been conducted over the past two and one-half years. The purpose of the book is three-fold:

  1. To advance the collective knowledge and practice of strategic management
  2. To be a guide for organizations to develop their strategic management capabilities in order to creatively innovate their business model and strategy
  3. To serve as basis for BAi's strategic management education, training, and consulting.

Strategy and Business Model Development

  • Development of a competitive business model for a financial and rewards industry start-up, (Dual Currency Systems) (2005)
  • Development of strategy for a software-consulting business (Insightformation) (2005)
  • Met with Peter F. Drucker. Discussed his approach to management consulting. (Feb., 2005)
  • Process capability & business model viability assessment for a manufacturer (2004).
  • Assessment of strategic and business model issues for a biotech startup (2003).

  • Fulfillment solutions for eight different new products (2002 - 2003).
  • Overall corporate strategy development (mid-1990s through 2003).
  • Information architecture and strategic planning (mid-1980s thru 2003).
  • Value chain fulfillment process reengineering (1997 – 2002).
  • Business Unit (BU) design and implementation (2002).
  • Business process model development (1990s – 2003).
  • Supply chain blueprint development (2000 - 2003).
  • Business competency analysis and assessment (2002).
  • Business model and process complexity assessment (2002 – 2003)
  • Enterprise-wide operations model development (2002).

Mass Customization and Configuration

  • Introduced and implemented configuration capabilities enterprise-wide (1998 – 2001).
  • Developed BOM and Product ID principles and guidelines needed to meet fulfillment requirements overall, including manufacturing and post sales service (2000 – 2002).
  • Guided the integrated planning of product migration, product releases, model development, quote and order tool releases, etc. (2001 – 2003)
  • Developed product ordering, tracking, scheduling and labeling scheme for non-part numbered products to deal with a rapidly proliferating product offering (late 1980s).
  • Assessed the issues and solutions to deal with increasing complexity in the business being driven by product and process proliferation in response to increasingly diverse market demand for products and business solutions (2002).
  • Assessed the core competencies and approaches to deal with increasing complexities in the value chain (2002).

New Product Realization

  • Developed and implemented a revised product realization methodology for the product realization process (2001 – 2002).
  • Defined the fulfillment solutions for 8 new product introductions (2001 – 2002).
  • Organized and facilitated complex problem solving (2002).
  • Integrated Product Development and IT planning (2001 – 2003).
  • Applied QMS principles to product realization (2002).
  • Developed and implemented completion and QA checklists by stage gate (2002).

Quality

  • Minnesota Council for Quality Baldrige Evaluator (2004)
  • Introduced and educated much of the organization regarding QMS (2001 – 2003).
  • Facilitated the integration of the business unit (BU) and Functional planning processes (2002 – 2003).
  • Facilitated the development and attachment of business performance metrics improvement targets to the business unit project deliverables (2003).
  • Educated several groups on the application of quality tools and techniques (2002 – 2003).
  • Developed a unified view of quality improvement processes and kaizen events (six-sigma, PDCA, DMAIC, FISH, and kaizen) (2001).
