A Sounding Board for Leaders
Consultants serve as trusted advisors to bring truthful, objective, and pertinent information to the CEO's attention. Holding back on information which can improve the performance of the management team significantly reduces the value of the consultant to the CEO. A key dimension to the consultant's trustworthiness is competency in knowing when they know the truth and when they do not. This requires experience, an effective approach to learning and developing understanding, the research capabilities, and sound judgment.
